I have recently invested a small chunk of change in brand new microphones considering that the licensed wireless spectrum is being repurposed for other uses.  According to the Federal Communications Commission, “wireless microphones that operate in the new 600 MHz service band (the 617-652 MHz and 663-698 MHz frequencies) will be required to cease operation no later than July 13, 2020, and may be required to cease operation sooner if they could cause interference to new wireless licensees that commence operations on their licensed spectrum in the 600 MHz service band.”

I haven’t had any issues personally and these changes are supposed to be slightly delayed in Canada; however, it’s not something that I’m willing to risk either.  I believe that my customers deserve the very best service, so I’m not about to risk have a microphone dropout during a wedding ceremony or important keynote speech.  I believe that it is important to be proactive in situations like this.

These new microphones have great frequency response, excellent gain before feedback, and the double coil of the 935 capsule greatly reduces handling noise.  We also purchased lapel-style systems for officiants that prefer a lapel-style microphone.  We also have options for headset microphones.  Having four units in a system gives us flexibility in what microphones we use as well as redundancy (as a backup).  I always like to err on the side of caution, so having back-up equipment available & ready to go is part of any setup we use.

In addition to the new microphones, I also invested in a small-format digital mixer which allows me full-control of the new microphones with compressors, gates, EQs, effects and much more, as well as a few more inputs, such as instruments for wedding ceremonies.  This addition to our inventory will allow us to provide better service to our customers.  It also has the benefit of wireless tablet control which will make properly setting up and adjusting settings on the fly more efficient.

I am very excited about these new additions to our inventory.  Moving forward with technology and investing back into our company will ensure that we are able to continue providing the professional service that our reputation is built on in more efficient & flexible ways!
