On Monday, January 30th, Mark Caravaggio of DJ Charlie Clean and myself had the opportunity to do a Facebook Live event for the Ontario Wedding Swap and Sell group with Angie of Jacha Beauty, one of the group’s administrators. OWSS has over 16,000 members across Ontario. As recognized wedding industry professionals, Mark & I were selected to speak specifically about DJs in an effort to educate couples on the professional and what to look for when searching for their wedding entertainment.

We discussed why hiring a DJ is important, what DJs actually do for a wedding, pricing, customer service, professionalism, planning resources, insurance, music investment, lighting, experience, professional associations, and much, much more. Since it was a Facebook Live event, people were able to ask questions, bring up scenarios and also help us answer the questions and discuss the topics.

I feel like this was a great way to educate people on how much more a DJ can be than just being there to play music. People are often surprised by the amount of work that happens behind the scenes and the great attention to detail that professionals have in order to properly plan & execute a great wedding. People think they’re hiring somebody to hit play, but there’s much more to it than that. It’s about helping create a great experience, from the initial consultation, to meticulous planning, to song selections, to timing and much more. Having a thorough plan in place is paramount to having a successful event. It’s important to not being just “winging-it” on arguably one of the most important day in a couple’s lives.  Perfect events don’t just happen by accident!

After the event I realized what Ron MacLean must feel like working with Don Cherry! Mark is so energetic & animated that it was easy for us to get off on a tangent. That being said, it’s important for a wedding DJ to be able to adapt to the situation.  Not everything will be perfect, so if something does happen, it is our responsibility to adapt to those changes and continue on with the show!  This was something new for both of us, so were definitely out of our normal element.

Thank you to everybody involved with Ontario Wedding Swap and Sell for giving Mark & I this opportunity to speak about our industry and provide some insight into what we do as wedding entertainers. It’s a great honour to be chosen to represent the industry that we’re so passionate about!
